“It has been great working with you (Richard) and Sovereign as you took my vision, you made it into what it is today and here we are now, still working together as we move forward.
Working with Richard has been an absolute pleasure, you’ve always been at the end of the phone if I’ve phoned and you’ve always phoned back immediately. I was here on Sunday and there were people from all over the island using the play park and I had a chat with somebody who was brought up in Godshill and she said she spreads the word and they are asking of their areas, if Godshill can do it, we can’t we?”

“I had the pleasure of working with Nikki and Alison on this project, which was somewhat 10 years in the making. Together, we helped bring their vision of an inclusive play space to life for Godshill Parish Council and the wider community.
The existing play park was outdated and wasn’t accessible for all children. There was a clear need for investment and improvements, but at the time, there was no one available to take the project forward and no funding in place to make the necessary changes.
The vision was to create a dedicated play area for toddlers, alongside a separate space for older children. However, one of the most important elements of the project was the inclusion of a wheelchair swing, as there wasn’t one anywhere else on the island. This was something that Nikki and Alison were particularly passionate about and wanted to make available to children and families in the local community.
Grants and funding opportunities were explored and applications were submitted, but, like many projects, the COVID-19 pandemic brought progress to a halt and effectively wiped out all the work that had been done towards securing funding. We had to go back to the beginning and start the process again.
It was a long and challenging journey, with many ups and downs and obstacles to overcome along the way. However, it was incredibly rewarding to finally see the community enjoying the fantastic outdoor space we had worked so hard to help create. Seeing children being able to play, explore and have fun together made all the hard work worthwhile.
We at Sovereign were proud to sponsor Play Fest that was held at the play park the following May. It was a fantastic opportunity to see families enjoying the play area we had been so privileged to help create. I was delighted to attend the event, meet members of the community and have the opportunity to talk about the project and my work with Sovereign. It was fantastic to be part of such a memorable occasion and to see the impact that this project had made.
