A Primary School in North Lincolnshire has transformed their outdoor grass playing field into a dynamic sports track that can be enjoyed all year round, with help from Sovereign Play!

The Issue

Wrawby St Mary’s CE Primary School aspired to update their grass playing field into a space that could be used and enjoyed all year round, whilst improving the general fitness of the pupils.

The Resolution

Before the end of the summer term, experienced Sales Area Manager, Andy McKay met with Head Teacher, Mrs Potterton to discuss her vision for their existing large playing field. Together they discussed how the area was only utilised during the warmer weather and their options for enabling it to be used throughout the year. Inspired by the Daily Mile initiative, Mrs Potterton sought advice from Andy on how to best create a track around the perimeter of the field.

The Process

Drawing upon his wealth of experience, Andy suggested a bonded rubber mulch track split into equal sections of a different colour, to allow the pupils to keep track of how far they have run. In addition to this, a heavy duty section was included to allow for lawn mowers and tractors to cross the path, without damaging the surfacing. The plans were presented within a comprehensive quotation pack, ready for Mrs Potterton’s return from the summer break.

The Installation

Installation commenced and the Sovereign team worked tirelessly to complete the works efficiently and in a timely manner. Whilst maintaining close communication with Mrs Potterton, the team worked skilfully to create a track of the highest standard.

The Results

Sovereign have successfully transformed the grass field from a seasonal play area to a space that can be enjoyed throughout the year, during all weathers. The track is being used to encourage activity from the pupils, improve their health and general wellbeing whilst also being incorporated into P.E. lessons.

The communication with the team that installed the track was excellent, they kept me informed at all stages of the installation. Their attention to detail and the aesthetics of the track and school environment was excellent. The children think the track is brilliant and they were on it as soon as they were able to be. It has allowed all children to be active at different points during the day, they can walk, run, skip etc along the track and because it is divided into four colours, they know how far they have travelled. The track now means that the space can be used in all weathers offering more opportunities to the children. It is also being incorporated into outdoor PE lessons throughout the year which means it is multi use.
